Superman Home: Planet Krypton ‘Found’ in Sky

Look!  Up in the sky!  It’s — oh, forget it.

Superman is, of course, a fictional character, the stuff of comics and movies.  But that didn’t stop DC Comics, which owns the Superman franchise, from enlisting the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson to “find” the location of his lost home planet, Krypton.

It’s in the constellation Corvus the raven, in the southern sky not far from Virgo and Hydra.  The planet Krypton — not that it ever existed — would have orbited a red dwarf star called LHS 2520, Tyson concluded. The star is 27.1 light-years from Earth.

You’ll recall that according to the story, the baby Kal-El was sent in a spaceship to Earth by his parents, who knew that Krypton would soon be destroyed.  As an adult in the city of Metropolis, he disguises himself as Clark Kent, a reporter fighting a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.  But he also has feelings.  In the newest comic, out this week, Tyson is seen helping the homesick Superman trace his roots.

It’s all a good bit of publicity — both for DC Comics and for Tyson, who directs New York’s Hayden Planetarium and has become a popular science communicator — but you can also tell he has tongue firmly planted in cheek.

“As a native of Metropolis,” said Tyson in a statement, “I was delighted to help Superman, who has done so much for my city over all these years.”

DC Entertainment, which says it approached Tyson, had its own take.  Co-publisher Dan DiDio said, “Having Neil deGrasse Tyson in the book was one thing, but by applying real world science to this story he has forever changed Superman’s place in history. Now fans will be able to look up at the night’s sky and say, ‘That’s where Superman was born.’”

Superman vs The Elite Blu-Ray / DVD Review

Synopsis: The Elite, a team of super-powered antiheroes, is renowned for killing their enemies. Despite the acclaim and approval the Elite enjoy, Superman knows they are in the wrong, creating more harm than good by their methods. Tensions between them finally culminate in a mass showdown on Jupiter’s moons, when Superman is forced to prove that violence is never a positive.

Review: Superman vs. the Elite opens with this great Sex Pistols-esque Punk rock-retro Superman montage.  Its sets a great tone right off the bat.   I think that I benefit a lot from the Dc Universe films in that I haven't read a lot of the story arcs that they're based on and that makes them far more enjoyable for me personally.  I have no idea what is coming and I like it that way.

The focus in this film is the age-old comic book fan debate on whether heroes like Superman and Batman should keep capturing the same criminals, knowing full well they’ll break out of prison and kill again.  Superman, the ultimate boyscout that he is, refuses to kill.   Enter a motley crew of "superheroes" that are willing to get the job done!  This film explores some fantastic themes..the acting is great, the animation is great and the overall story is fantastic.  This one is an A+ to any fan of Superman, Dc Comics or just comic book themed characters in general!  This one is not for kids, beware the foul language and PG-13 rating!

In SUPERMAN VS. THE ELITE, Superman's effectiveness as a super hero
comes into question when a new group of super powerful crusaders,
known as "The Elite," appear on the scene.  As super heroes, the Elite
know no bounds, and are more than willing to kill, even on a massive
scale, to stop villainy -- putting them on a collision course with the
ever-ethical, yet preferably non-lethal Man of Steel.

EARTH 2 CHARACTER DESIGNS – SUPERGIRL

Coming in May, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave” will literally expand the world-building efforts of the comprehensive publishing initiative. With the addition of a parallel Earth that features prominently into both EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST, the developing narrative will encompass new heroes from distinctly different backgrounds, building on the shared universe in some surprising ways.

“Superman’s cousin loves her adopted world with a passion, seeing how the people of Earth have adopted her and taken her to their hearts,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson. “She is the definitely brightest light among this first group of Earth 2 heroes.”

“Meet the Earth 2 Supergirl, aka Karen Starr,” said WORLDS’ FINEST editor Wil Moss. “As readers of MISTER TERRIFIC already know, Karen has been busy since she arrived on the main DCU Earth, creating a successful company and dating the brilliant Michael Holt. But what are her true motives behind those actions? How did she get here? And what incident prompts her to take up her new identity of Power Girl? Find out in WORLDS’ FINEST #1!”

Here’s a first look at the Supergirl of Earth 2, designed by Kevin Maguire.

“What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”
Here’s a first look at the Superman of EARTH 2, designed by Jim Lee.
